Author Keta Diablo is a guest on my blog

I'd like to welcome author Keta Diablo to my blog today. Let's find out more about her and her book series " Crossroads" anthology.

1-How long have you been writing?

In one way or another, I've written most of my life. I started out writing family memoirs or single stories about my ancestors. I spent years searching my roots and traced my mother's family back to Massachusetts in 1730. The 'real life' stories fascinated me so I suppose that's what launched my writing career.

2- What is your favorite genre to write? I would have to say historical with paranormal elements. I also enjoy writing time travel because the concept is fascinating. Course, it's hard to convince the reader time travel might exist unless you stay true to what would actually happen physically and emotionally to a person if they were thrust back in time or into the future.

Two examples of my time travel books are Cradle of Dreams and Dust and Moonlight.

3-What are you working on now? A better question would be what am I NOT working on now. lol. I'm writing a western series of four books under my pen name Cait Braxton, and have Book 1 in the final editing stage. I'm halfway through a sequel to Cradle of Dreams, another novella titled Whisper of Dreams. This book should be out in July.

I've plotted in my mind the sequel to Where the Rain Is Made, a historical paranormal novel that released five years ago. I know, five years! Many readers have asked for a sequel and I hope to get around to writing that this summer and fall. Where the Rain Is Made has been nominated for a Bookie Award by Authors After Dark and is really a phenomenal novel about the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers. Well, that, and there's lots of ROMANCE, conflict and shifting from man to raven taking place. Where the Rain Is Made here: http://amzn.to/13tR4Ha

4-When you begin a story do you start with character or plot? Oh, that's a tough question. I would say the setting and timeframe come first, and the basic elements of the story. Once I have that in my mind, I start developing the characters.

5-Tell us about your latest/upcoming release. What inspired it? Crossroads Anthology is a combination of four novellas featuring featuring private investigator Frank McGuire and his partner/lover Rand Brennan. The stories follow mostly Frank on his journey to find missing children and/or serial killers. Frank can commune with the dead, but has some problems 'communicating' with humans, including Rand. During the four books, we see Frank learn, grow and hopefully become a better person. I admit, he's not very likeable in Book 1, and that was no mistake. I wanted to see if Frank was, indeed, redeemable by the end of ther seris.

He channels one of the dead victims to help him unmask the killer.

Crossroads Revisited, Book 2 PI Frank McGuire is beginning to think Baltimore is a melting pot for serial killers. Another maniac is stalking the streets but this time the killer is after gay college students. Intent on protecting his lover Rand, Frank sends him away when en enemy from his past shows up. A distraction Frank can’t afford now that the serial killer’s next victim is Rand.

Crossroads Showdown, Book 3 Tough PI Frank McGuire agrees to help the FBI locate three abducted children from a small town in West Virginia. When Frank channels his inner spirit for assistance, he mistakenly calls forth a ghost. As Frank races against time to locate the missing girls, he receives help from a dead spirit. Rand has learned to stand up to Frank and issues an ultimatum―commit to a relationship or risk losing his love when he returns from chasing ghosts.

Crossroads Shadowland, Book 4 Frank’s newest case takes him to the heart of New Orleans. This should be the perfect time to introduce Rand to the world of private investigating but the case is riddled with trouble. A century-old ghost kidnaps two young boys, and gay-haters stalk the streets of the city. Frank must enter another realm to rescue the young boys and venture into the seedy bowels of New Orleans to save the man who holds his heart.

Excerpt: Rand must have sensed his presence. He sat up in bed, rubbed the sleep from his eyes, and glanced around the room. His body tensed and his eyes widened―forest green at the moment and glistening like jack pines after a summer storm. His voice barely a whisper and strained, Rand asked, “Who’s there?” Frank put the gun to his cheek. “Get up.” With trembling arms, he pushed the covers off, dragged his legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. The whites of his eyes gleamed stark against the dark shadows in the room. “What do you want?” Frank had taken the bullets out earlier, but the kid didn’t have to know that. He placed the gun to his forehead and grabbed a shaft of his thick, dark hair. “I’ll ask the questions.” He flicked the switch on a dim lamp beside the bed. “Do you understand?” Rand swallowed hard, nodded and stared at the black hood covering his face. A fleeting moment of recognition passed over his face, but it wasn’t possible he could make out Frank’s features behind the disguise. His lean, well-muscled body sent a shiver down Frank’s spine, every inch taut and smooth, covered only by a pair of blue boxer shorts. His dark hair rested above his shoulders, glossy like his mother’s, and streaked with mahogany. Reflected light caught the angular planes of his face, the carved cheekbones and generous mouth. This was going to be harder than Frank thought. Determined to scare the shit out of him if need be, he had to find out what he was up to and he had to get his hands on that box. Rand’s voice faltered. “I don’t have any money, no jewels, not even a pack of smokes, if that’s―” His head reeled to the side when Frank delivered an open-handed slap to his cheek. “Keep your mouth shut! Unless I tell you to speak, you say nothing, got it?” Another nod. For emphasis, Frank slapped him again on the other side of his face. “Where are the drugs?” “Drugs?” Anger and fear slithered through his voice. “You’ve come to the wrong place if you’re looking for smack or coke.” Frank holstered the gun, grabbed him by the hair again and smashed his face into the wall. A fine bead of sweat dampened his forehead and his hands were clenched tightly at his sides. “You call me sir when you address me.” “Yes, sir.”

Thanks so much for reading about the Crossroads Anthology! Keta

Reviews: “The characters are well written and well fleshed out. Their relationship is hot and loving. Frank knows that Rand needs certain things in life to make something of himself and he makes sure Rand is well cared for. There are BDSM elements and a paranormal aspect but all of it fits with these two men. Suspense/thrillers are my absolute favorite reads and this series is suspenseful and thrilling and action packed all the way. My advice to you is to grab your copies of the whole series and plan on staying up late reading!” Amazon reviewer, Jo S

“Ms. Diablo carefully orchestrates the scenes to include just the right amount of fear, stimulation and eroticism. The reader is instantly driven to not only see where the characters end up but also to find out the identity of the Black Rail Killer. The reveal is not what you think and that makes it so much more enticing.” Our Top Review Award, You Gotta Read, L. Moreno

“The bottom line: I give this book 5 Stars! It’s well-written, rich in detail, and the sex between the men is hot enough to burn. The ending was a surprise and tied up very well. Don’t let this one pass you by!” San Diego Examiner

“The mystery portion of the story seems to be the back story, but I think the reader can decide what the main story line is and what the minor story line is. Bringing in a character that is integral to Rand and Frank’s past is fantastic. It allows for more emotion than instinct when it comes to unraveling the killer. Crossroads Revisited is a great read and definitely worth not only buying but reading over and over again.” You Gotta Read Reviews
